PRACTICAL PROJECT GUIDE

Plan the shutdown before the work window opens.

A shutdown plan needs more than a list of jobs. It must connect the scope, readiness, site controls, work fronts and completion requirements to the time available.

1. Freeze a workable scope.

Break the requirement into defined work packages. Identify quantities, interfaces, priorities and the decisions still needed. Keep additions and changes under an agreed review process.

2. Check readiness early.
Confirm drawings, materials, equipment, spares, specialist attendance and competent resources. Identify long-lead items and the information needed before mobilisation.

3. Agree site-controlled access and isolations.
The authorised site team must define and control permits, isolations, releases and safe access under its procedures. Build these dependencies into the programme; do not treat them as assumed availability.

4. Sequence connected work fronts.
Coordinate removal, fabrication, installation, inspection, testing and reinstatement. Consider shared access, lifting areas, simultaneous work and the effect of one package on another.

5. Make decisions and contingencies visible.

Nominate decision owners and escalation contacts. Agree how unexpected conditions, additional work, resource changes or schedule pressure will be assessed and authorised.

6. Plan inspection and completion points.
Define the required checks and witness attendance for each package. Track observations and records as the work progresses so they do not become an end-of-window surprise.

7. Close the work and support release.
Complete agreed reinstatement, housekeeping, records and outstanding-item review. Return-to-service and system release remain controlled by the site’s authorised team and procedures.

Discuss your shutdown scope.

Share your site location, systems, drawings or BOQ, access constraints and intended programme. We will review the scope and discuss the next steps.
